CUBILLAS, Josefina B. 10/12/1923 - 10/15/2018

Dona Fina passed away in her home in Nogales, Arizona three days after her 95th birthday. She was born and raised in Santa Ana, Sonora, Mexico. She became an elementary school teacher at the young age of 16. She had a beautiful voice and was the main attraction in all school and town fiestas. She married Abelardo M. Cubillas in 1945 and moved to Nogales where they raised their four children. She continued in education by working as a bilingual teacher's aide with the Nogales Public Schools. As an amazing seamstress, she took great joy in sewing the NHS Pom Pom girls uniforms and many bridesmaids gowns. Her house was always full of her sons' and daughters' school friends who loved her cooking. She made the biggest and most delicious tortillas in the backyard in a large comal that her husband built for her. The students in the neighborhood would always stop on their way home to get a tortilla. On cold days, they were also treated to a cup of hot champurro. Even our 8th grade science teacher stood in line to get his tortilla. Fina always made sure that he took an extra tortilla home for his wife. When the boys were in college, they often came home with friends who were always welcomed in her home. She was compassionate to all people, faithful in prayer and loved by many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Abelardo and son, Enrique. She is survived by daughters, Lupita Campos (Carlos), Lourdes Velasco (Lorenzo); son, Abelardo Jr. (Terrie); eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at ADAIR CARROON MORTUARY on Friday, October 19, 2018. Viewing from 10:30 a.m. - 12:40 p.m. Rosary at 1:00 p.m. and Mass at 1:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church. She will be laid to rest at Nogales Cemetery immediately following the Mass.

ESPINOSA, Peter Robert 10/31/1965 - 10/14/2018

Peter passed away from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. As he bravely fought for his life, he was surrounded by his loving family. Peter was a master tradesman who helped build many of Tucson's finest commercial buildings. His hobbies included riding motorcycles, rocking out to music, sports and having a good time. He was very proud of his large and dynamic family. He never met a stranger and was always the center of fun. Peter is preceded in death by his father, Peter Espinosa, Sr.; Nana, Ana Luz Gasca; nephew, Jesus Espinosa and uncle, William Gasca. Peter is survived by the love of his life, MaryLou Duarte; children, Kayleigh Espinosa (Nikki Brown), Karina Espinosa (Jacob Soto), Emilio Espinosa and Elijah Espinosa; grandkids, Dominik, Aria and Luna Soto; his mother, Anna Gasca; brothers and sisters, Patsy Ritchie (Cody), Mary Espinoza (Richard Martinez), Christina Garcia, Peter R. Espinosa (Grace), Jesse Espinosa (Priscilla), Robert J. Espinosa (Sandy), Antonio J. Espinosa (Celina), Shiela Encinas (Ernie), Julie Davis and Felicia Espinosa (Gerry). In addition, Peter is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and many more loved ones. Our family would like to thank the medical staff at UMC Diamond Children's Trauma Center who were so very kind during Peter's final days. Visitation will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel) 240 S. Stone Ave., with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life Mass will be offered Saturday, October 20, 2018, 9:00 a.m. at St. Augustine's Cathedral, 192 S. JACKSON, Lon Franklin

died September 29, 2018. He was born in Thealka, Kentucky, and he spent much of his life in southern Ohio. As a young adult, Lon worked as an auto mechanic and, when he was in the Peace Corps, he taught many students how to fix their vehicles. Lon moved to Tucson in 1980 and received a degree in electronics. He worked in that field for several years before he became disabled. Lon survived many physical hardships throughout his later years but always managed to stay active, spend quality time with his family and pets, travel, and read mystery and adventure novels. Last May, Lon was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer, and despite his efforts to prolong his life, he lost the battle. Lon was a loving husband and father and is greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived his wife, Elizabeth and his son, Shea. Many thanks are in order, to the kind and caring staff at Peppi's House. Donations may be made to Pima Animal Care Center or other worthy charity. A celebration of life will be held in December. Dad,

I cannot believe it has been a decade since you were here to laugh, love, and hug us. Some days it feels like you were just here and other days it feels like a lifetime. I miss you more than ever and I cannot wait until we are together again. Until then, keep doing God's work. I love you.

PRIESTER, George H., Jr.

98, of Tucson, passed away October 12, 2018. George was born in Milwaukee, WI, graduated from Northwestern University on the G.I. Bill, and was employed for 43 years by the Falk Corporation in Milwaukee, WI. He is survived by his daughters, Janet McCausland (Tom) and Mary Crawford (Darrell); five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 27, 2018 at Catalina Fooothills Church, 2150 E. Orange Grove Road, Tucson. WILEY, Barbara Ann Benton "M.A." and WILEY, Thomas Appelle

Barbara died on October 12, 2018, at her home in Pima County, Arizona, having made it to her 96th birthday. Barbara was born on October 9, 1922, in Peoria, Illinois, to Wilhelmina Esther Vogel and Luther Rush Benton. She was the first in her family to be born in a hospital. She was graduated from University High School in Urbana, Illinois, and received Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Illinois. While attending the U of I, she met her future husband of nearly 62 years, Thomas Appelle Wiley. They were married on February 29, 1944, before he went to Europe with the Army in World War II. Barbara was a nurse's aide for the duration of the war. The family moved to the Tucson area in August of 1960. Barbara worked many years for the Arizona Department of Economic Security and made good friends among her co-workers. She was active in 4-H and was a Cooking Project Leader. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, and for 12 years obtained speakers for the weekly Roundtable program. Barbara started investigating her family tree for an eighth grade science project, and this turned into a lifelong genealogy hobby. Not only did she thoroughly research her and her husband's families, she did genealogy work for friends and neighbors, and showed others how to do the research. M.A. loved to tell jokes (always clean), and felt that everyone should laugh every day. People she regularly encountered would ask her for the joke of the day, and pass on new ones to her. Well into her 90's, she could put her foot behind her head, and often did so when she met new doctors so that they wouldn't confuse her with other patients. Many, many people, dogs, and cats thought she was the sweetest person they ever knew. She was an excellent baker, made the best pineapple cookies, and taught her daughters baking and other important home skills. She loved bagpipe music. She was Our Dear Sweet Little M.A. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Barbara Ann Wiley Crull, Karin Stephanie Wiley Elder, Jennifer Gail Wiley, and Suzanne Elizabeth Wiley Bowe (Robert); grandchildren, Casey Lee Crull Scheidegger, Kelly Alan Crull (Sheryl), Anna Barbara Crull Conley (Kenneth), Ingrid Maria Waag Brown (Kevin), Amy Elizabeth Elder Stevens (Scotton), and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (February 12, 2006), and siblings, Gladys Juanita Benton Patton, Everett Michael Benton, Eva Faye Benton, and Eva May Benton. The family would like to thank all her doctors and the staff at Banner UMC, Casa de la Luz Hospice, Home Instead Home Health Care, EVERGREEN MORTUARY and the many EMTs who responded to her calls. Not only did they provide kind, compassionate care, but they were a willing, or otherwise, audience for her jokes. A Memorial Service will be planned for the spring. Be prepared to bring a joke!
