Photos: New Tucson Fire Station 9 opens
The rebuilt Tucson Fire Station 9 officially opened on Wednesday.
The original station built in 1966, nicknamed "House of Pain," houses 16 firefighters, including an engine, ladder, paramedic unit, an EMS captain and a battalion chief.
Station 9 is one of five aging stations to be rebuilt using bond money from Tucson Proposition 101. At 19,250 square-feet, it is the second largest station in the city. It includes a new call notification system, larger workout room, individual dormitory rooms, a large kitchen and dining room, a decontamination area and separate ventilation to keep hazardous fumes out of living spaces.
