Purple Martins outfitted with trackers
Victoria Wiley an NAU PhD candidate, Jennie MacFarland from the Tucson Audubon Society and Joe Siegrist, President of The National Purple Martin Conservation Organization spent a week in the Mammoth area northeast of Tucson, trying to capture and outfit Purple Martins with a tracking device in an effort to prove that the SW Purple Martins, of which there are about 5,900, are a different species from Eastern Purple Martins, which are far more common.
