State hotshot crews in Southeastern Arizona on Saturday battled a 50-acre blaze that started in the Pinaleno Mountains near Safford, a fire official said.
The North Taylor Fire was reported just before 4 a.m., burning ponderosa pine and grass on the forest floor near West Peak, Marylee Peterson, a Coronado National Forest spokeswoman, said in a news release.
The Fulton, Geronimo and Craig hotshot crews fought the blaze, assisted by the Northwest Fire/Rescue District hand crew and a crew from the state Department of Corrections.
Two heavy air tankers and two helicopters were also being used, and a third helicopter had been ordered, Peterson said.
The fire had burned 50 acres Saturday, Peterson said. The cause is under investigation.
