A federal judge temporarily blocked the Trump administration from deploying any National Guard units to Oregon, including the California National Guard.
An Associated Press tally shows U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is spending millions of dollars on TV recruitment ads targeting officers frustrated by local restrictions on immigration enforcement.
President Trump’s efforts to send National Guard troops into U.S. cities — including Los Angeles; Portland, Oregon; and Chicago — have prompted questions about who controls the Guard.
Trump and his administration have described Portland, Oregon, as a city under siege by antifa, labeling it a war zone. However, the reality in Portland is less extreme.
The decision came after federal Judge April Perry ruled Thursday to temporarily block the National Guard deployment for at least two weeks.
Trump and his allies are counting on "self-deportation," the idea that life can be made unbearable enough to make people leave voluntarily.
The parents came to the United States from Mexico three decades ago and had pending green card applications.
Trump said he's weighing land operations in the country. U.S. forces destroyed at least five alleged boats — four originating from Venezuela — killing 27 people.
A full-body restraint device known as the WRAP has become a harrowing part of deportations for some immigrants.
The review is likely to sow confusion and fear among the nearly 200,000 refugees who came to the United States during that period.
