Black holes have captured the imagination of scientists and others since Einstein first theorized of their existence a century ago. Scientists now have revealed the first image of a black hole.

Scientists on Wednesday revealed the first image ever made of a black hole, depicting its hot, shadowy edges where light bends around itself in a cosmic funhouse effect.
A black hole discovered 1,000 light-years from Earth is itself invisible, but it has two bright companion stars that gave away the hiding spot.
Researchers at the University of Arizona who are part of the worldwide Event Horizon Telescope Collaboration have played a key role in black hole imaging.
