Oregon Zoo's animals celebrate autumn with pumpkin treats
From the Watch Now: Oregon Zoo celebrates fall with pumpkin treats, and more of today's top videos series
With October here the animals at Oregon Zoo have been enjoying their favorite autumn treats - gourds. Among the animals snacking on delicious pumpkins with Halloween just a month away were the river otters Tilly, Flora and Hobson, who nibbled away at a Jack-O-Lantern, the red panda Moshu, the Zoo’s African-crested porcupine, Sharpie, Maple the beaver, and the ring-tailed lemurs Holly and Gizmo. A host of bigger beasts also got in on the act including the majestic Eastern black rhino, King and the Asian elephants, Rose-Tu, Shine, Samudra, who crushed giant gourds beneath their mighty hooves. Some of the Zoo’s top predators even took a break from their usual diets to enjoy some pumpkin treats. These included the black bear Takoda, Morgan the feisty slender-nosed crocodile, Nora the polar bear and an African lion named Zawadi. In addition to the gourds, the African lion family have been provided with new scents to bring out some of the pride’s natural feline behaviours. Goat bedding, food hidden under rocks and logs, giant cat toys hung from the roof all help them get a feeling of the wild.
