Saturday is National Public Lands Day and the U.S. Forest Service is inviting Tucsonans to spend half a day mending fences, cleaning trails, removing non-native vegetation and picking up trash.
The Santa Catalina District of the Coronado National Forest will focus on Sabino Canyon from 7 to 11 a.m.
Volunteers should gather at the visitors center and wear work gloves, sturdy shoes, comfortable clothing and sunscreen. Bring water, snacks and a shovel.
The usual Forest Service fees for parking and other activities will not be charged on Public Lands Day. That does not include the Sabino Canyon shuttle, which is operated by a private company.
