A Phoenix-area physician who had three patients die during plastic surgery has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Paul McMurdie sentenced Dr. Peter Normann Tuesday after he was found guilty of second-degree murder in July in the deaths of a Scottsdale man and California woman and man-slaughter in the death of a Gilbert woman. The three died in 2006 and 2007 at Normann's clinic in Anthem.
Lawyers for Normann, 50, said the deaths were accidental.
But prosecutors say all three victims were intubated improperly during resuscitation, making it impossible to save them. Medical examiners say two overdosed on anesthesia during routine liposuction. The third allegedly died of a fat embolism when her body fat was reinjected to reshape her buttocks.
