GLENDALE — Memorial services will be held Saturday for former Gov. Evan Mecham.
The funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4901 W. Union Hills Drive, Glendale. Interment will be at a later date in Phoenix at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
Mecham, the only Arizona governor to be impeached and one of the state's most polarizing politicians, died Thursday of circumstances consistent with his age, son Dennis Mecham said.
Mecham, 83, had been in deteriorating health for years with symptoms of Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; seven children; three brothers; and a sister.
Gov. Janet Napolitano ordered flags at state buildings be flown at half-staff through Mecham's funeral.
