MESA — A Mesa man has been arrested after he allegedly tried to choke a police dog.
Vito Renee Oliva, 25, fled after police tried to pull him over early Saturday for speeding, according to police reports. Police caught up to Oliva in a south Phoenix backyard.
Police sent a dog in after Oliva and according to police, Oliva grabbed the dog by the collar and attempted to choke it, the Arizona Republic reports.
An officer attempting to get Oliva off the dog, was allegedly kicked in the groin. Oliva was eventually arrested and booked on suspicion of resisting arrest, aggravated assault on a police officer and harming a service animal.
