Like Maricopa County, Pinal County health officials are concerned that abandoned homes with neglected swimming pools will become a breeding ground for mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus.
Pinal County environmental-health specialist Tami Schuler says green swimming pools at foreclosed homes have become a huge problem when it comes to controlling disease-carrying mosquitoes.
As of late May, the number of problem pools in Pinal County had surpassed all the complaints in 2007.
So far this year, health officials have logged 117 complaints, compared with 115 last year.
While there have been no reports of West Nile virus in Pinal County, health officials ask that residents report problem pools to the county.
