PHOENIX — State prosecutors have charged a Tempe lawyer with smuggling heroin and a cell phone into the Maricopa County jail.
The charges filed by the Arizona Attorney General's Office against 34-year-old Jason John Keller on Wednesday include three counts of smuggling, three counts of assisting a street gang and a conspiracy charge.
The filing accuses Keller of bringing heroin, a cell phone and a cell-phone charger into the jail and giving them to inmates. One was his client. Some of the inmates who received the contraband are allegedly gang members.
Attorney general's spokeswoman Anne Titus Hilby says Keller was arrested Tuesday evening. He was still jailed Wednesday afternoon.
A call to Keller's office seeking comment wasn't immediately returned.
