Japan sex crime legislation: Age of consent raised from 13 to 16 years old
Japan, a country which had one of the lowest ages of consent since its enactment in 1907, has now overhauled its sex crime laws. The reforms, which include changing the legal definition of rape and raising the age of consent from 13 to 16, were passed on Friday and have been welcomed by activists.
