Smithsonian honors the late Queen Elizabeth II
On September 15, 2022, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC, displayed Queen Elizabeth II's portrait as painted by Bernard Safran. The memorial display was resurrected in the wake of Queen Elizabeth II's passing on September 8, 2022. The regal portrait of the Queen was painted by Bernard Safran in 1959 for the cover of Time Magazine. The magazine published with the Queen on its cover on June 29, 1959. The portrait is acrylic on masonite and was a gift to the museum of Time Magazine. Queen Elizabeth was 96-years-old when she passed away and was England's longest reigning monarch.
