Boeing prepares for future Artemis moon missions
Boeing on Monday hosted a ribbon cutting for a new production area at NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans. This is where crews will work on a new upper stage for the Space Launch System rocket and NASA's Artemis program. The Exploration Upper Stage will hold 40 percent more cargo for future Artemis missions. This includes flying observation satellites, space telescopes and equipment for deep space destinations such as outer planets and their moons. In November, NASA launched the first mission of the Artemis program from Cape Canaveral, Florida. It plans to land the first woman and the first person of color on the moon. During the ribbon cutting, Boeing also awarded a grant to a local STEM program for underserved communities in Louisiana. The company says the investment adds to the need of homegrown talent as well as access to hands-on STEM experiences.
