People throughout much of Hawaii are cleaning up from days of torrential rainstorms, flooding and landslides. Authorities on Maui and Oahu ordered mass evacuations of communities amid concerns over flooding. At least six homes and two bridges were damaged or destroyed on Maui. In the town of Haleiwa, on Oahu, Tom Rodewald was trying to pull his boat out of his yard, after the storm broke it away from the area where he tied it up, and carried into the mud. Savin Gatchalin said deep water carried mud into his house. "The water rose to a certain level here where it just lifted up the bed and the fridge," he said.
