India's Supreme Court of India has agreed to hear two petitions appealing to legalise same-sex, setting the stage for a legal face-off with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government which has in the past refused to legalize such marriages. For India's gay couples, a change in the law allowing them to wed could be a path to both greater acceptance and equal legal rights in a country where the institution of marriage is a cornerstone of society.
