Local opinion: Waiting for Iran to become an immediate threat is folly

The following is the opinion and analysis of the writer:

What is the purpose of the Iranian imperialist empire? Through its terrorist militias, Iran's theocratic empire has controlled Lebanon, Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

On March 7m Iranian sympathizers in the U.S. held a vigil for the deceased Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. in NYC, shouting "We stand in full solidarity with the Iranian Republican Guard and Islamic revolution."

Iranian terrorism has killed nearly 1,000 U.S. citizens over the years, along with plots and terrorism in Europe from Denmark to London to France.

All this, before our attack on the Iranian military. The Islamic revolution represented by Ali Khamenei, is at war with the entirety of Western civilization and its values. His words were thus, “Western civilization and its misguided values” cannot prevail, for they are inimically opposed to ... "the correct reasoning of Islam”.

For the mullahs, the United States (the Great Satan) represents Western civilization. We, the United States, are the obstacle to spreading Shia Islamofascism.

Around the U.S., there's been much discussion of what an imminent threat is. North Korea is an imminent threat to the U.S. with its arsenal of nuclear ICBMs that can reach the US, and its stated willingness to use them. That imminent threat is now an immediate threat, and the reason we can now do nothing against it. Our opportunity to halt North Korea from becoming a nuclear threat to our country was before it became an imminent threat.

The chorus in the U.S. advocating patience till Iran becomes an immediate threat is beyond the pale. A peaceful nuclear program does not hide nuclear programs under mountains, enrich uranium over 60% (close to bomb grade), employ advanced centrifuges, and limit monitoring by the Atomic Energy Agency, all the while rejecting offers of nuclear fuel suitable for peaceful purposes. Dr. Bruce E. Bechtol Jr., a nuclear proliferation expert says, " Iran has an ICBM program: they got it from North Korea." Iran doesn't need an ICBM to reach Israel, they need it to reach the U.S. mainland. Yes, if the imminent threat chorus has its way, we will watch Iranian ICBMs in a military parade through Tehran, displaying the immediate threat of ICBM-equipped nuclear weapons. The folks advocating waiting until Iran is an imminent threat will have their wish.

Democratic presidents, Truman, Kennedy, Clinton, Obama and Biden all employed our military without congressional approval. Regarding Iran going nuclear, Obama stated on Oct. 7, 2008, "I will do everything that's required to prevent it. And we will never take military options off the table."

Joe Biden made much the same statement. World leaders from the UK, Australia, Italy, France, and Germany have all agreed that Iran should not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons. Yet it is only the U.S. that can act on this. The most vocal proponents of waiting until there was an imminent threat were very quiet when Democrats entered wars.

No discussion of the Iranian threat should occur without noting how the mullahs murdered over 30,000 of their own citizens in just 48 hours, have publicly stated Israel is a one-bomb solution, a willingness to almost exclusively attack civilian targets in neighboring countries, and have 100% dedication to the need of Shia Islamofascism to confront and destroy Western civilization. To comprehend the Iranian theocracy, understanding the importance of the 12th Imam is paramount. Per Shia theology, God had hidden the 12th Imam, or Mahdi, awaiting a time to bring him forth. The Mahdi will usher in Islamic justice for the entire world. Unfortunately, many of the mullahs, including the newest supreme leader, believe that an apocalyptic war will bring the 12th Imam and Islamic rule to the world. This vision of the Mullahs would allow and necessitate Iran's use of nuclear weapons to incinerate much of the world to bring the Mahdi/12th Imam back.

Do I wish there would have been better planning, explaining and coalition building by this administration? Absolutely. But I am resolutely opposed to the hypocrites playing to their audiences and not considering the long-term safety of our country and civilization.
