Dear Senators:
Please do not give away any of the Senate’s power to confirm or block President-Elect Trump’s picks for Cabinet positions and heads of independent agencies. The Senate must resist his push for recess appointments, and prevent him from circumventing the normal vetting process for nominees.
It is urgent that the Senate resist Trump’s efforts to concentrate authority in the Executive Branch. You must protect the Senate’s rightful role in approving or blocking appointments as wisdom leads you, thereby helping to preserve the separation of powers that protects this country from tyranny. The appointment process is a first test from the incoming regime.
I hope you and your colleagues will conduct robust examinations of all of Trump’s nominees.
This is a time to stand strong in defense of our republic and the public good. May God be with you as you rise to the moment.
