VP Harris lies to America
Re: July 29 letter "Media covered for Biden, fawns over Harris."
I just read that Kamala Harris continually lied to America according to a letter writer. Why would he complain about Harris lying when No. 45 set the record for lying while in office with more than 30,000 lies or falsehoods while in office? Is there a competition for liars that No. 45 couldn't win? After reading the letter I was astonished at the take. Don't vote for Harris because she lies less than the felon she's running against? Who is lying when it comes to saying that Harris was a polarizing figure in the White House? Where was this reported? The facts are that Biden's administration has come through for America. The former president gave us more than $7.8T of debt by giving corporations a tax break. Biden's IRS has clawed back more than a billion of that for the American people. That America that Tucsonans live in.

Dems praising Biden
Re: July 22 article "Arizona Democrats praise Biden decision, some embrace Harris."
Grijalva: "most consequential Presidents in our history." OK! Let us all feast our eyeballs on the "consequences" wrought by this fella! 1. The unmitigated disaster that is the entire southern border! 2. Umpteen thousands of outlaws are sent here on a mission, crossed the border like a hot knife thru butter and scattered all around the country! Setting up cells awaiting the order to "execute"! 3. Europe — think Putin executed "his" mission because he thought Biden would be a hindrance? Same with Gaza! Etc., etc. Mayor Regina: "...Kamala is ready to step in and lead." Step in and "WHAT"? She really believes that she is a prime customer for that proverbial bridge! Hobbs: Dropped enough sugar on Biden to make enough ice cream for those cones he loves! But —"his" decision to quit? Grijalva might step in and 'splain things to her! No need, though, surely she knows, they all do!

Inexcusable Kamala Harris
On Wednesday (July 24) Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu gave a speech to a joint session of Congress in the U.S Capitol. It was exhilarating with many standing ovations. Absent from the chamber was VP Kamala Harris, the President of the Senate. She should have been sitting side by side with House Speaker Johnson directly behind Netanyahu. Instead, she was at a campaign event. Meanwhile, outside the Capitol, thousands of anti-Israel pro-Palestinian and pro-Hamas protesters were stomping on American flags and setting them on fire. They defaced federal monuments and threw feces at U.S. Park Police. There was no immediate denunciation of the protesters by Harris. Only after outrage about it mounted did she issue a statement the following day condemning it, out of political expediency. There is no doubt in my mind that Harris sympathizes with and supports these protesters. Where is USAG Garland and FBI Director Wray's pledge to identify, track down and prosecute all of these people? Ah, but they are young Democrat voters.

DEI bias regarding Presidential candidate
White Christian men have held power over minorities for centuries: women, slaves, non-white immigrants, and Native Americans, excluded from power and education. They passed laws restricting immigration, setting quotas in higher education, skewing funding in education of marginalized groups. Demographics have changed! I am amazed at the foreign sounding names of doctors, educators, entrepreneurs, high school winners of National Merit scholarships. Kamala Harris is being called unqualified because of sex and race; even though educated and successful in her legal profession and political experience; especially compared to the former president! It is time we judge people for their character and not the color of their skin (M. L. King) My vote will be for the prosecutor not the felon whose CV is born rich, unethical real estate developer, TV celebrity and multiple indictments and 34 convictions of fraud. Thankfully, our current President has shown himself to be a decent, honorable, white Christian man. There are many and need to vote their conscience as truly Christian citizens.

Protesters weren't MAGA Republicans
How many MAGA Republicans were in that anti-Israel pro-Palestinian protest turned riot outside the Capital yesterday (July 24)? I venture none. How many were in the 100 that took over the Capitol rotunda earlier in the week? I venture none. How many have been in the hundreds of such protests across the country since last October? I venture none. These thousands of protesters have taken over university campuses, taken over public buildings, trespassed, destroyed property, thrown rocks and bottles at law enforcement, held up despicable anti-Semitic signs about Jews and harassed Jewish students. These are not MAGA Republicans, but rather Progressive Democrats. Harris is out there calling Republicans extremists. She needs to look at her own party for the extremists. There were no MAGA riots or protests after the FBI raided Mar a Lago, Trump's conviction in New York, his assassination attempt, politically motivated indictments, etc. I would argue that January 6 was a one off occasion. Protesting and rioting is what Democrats do. Remember the summer of 2019?

No debates with a convicted felon
Let's hope that there are no debates between Ms. Harris and the other guy. There is little, if any, upside for Ms. Harris to debate and significant downside. Why should Democrats give credibility and national exposure to a convicted felon? Further, one can expect the same ignoring of issues and spouting the usual lies by the other guy. Rationale for not debating, "Why would I debate a convicted felon". The last debate should never have occurred (very bad strategy). It destroyed Joe Biden who deserved better.

Missing the point
I expect the majority of the primary voters did not actually vote for Joe Biden. I'm guessing they voted for anybody but Donald Trump! Presuming that assumption is valid, nothing has changed. The vote is still 'Anybody but Donald Trump'.

Sen. Wadsack breaks the law & citizens trust
Senator Wadsack, Arizona does not need a self-indulgent, whiny legislator engaging in teenage drag race at 70 mph at night. She needs to pay the fine. She was not doing state business. As for electric charge, we've had electric cars since 2010. As a scientist, speeding faster would drain the battery faster. Sticking to the posted speed would have gotten her home with reserve. I suppose if she'd killed or seriously hurt a pedestrian or struck another car, she would have blamed them — claiming legislative immunity. She does not model representation nor citizenship for serious attention to our state and nation. If we picked rescue dog to represent her riding (aka district), it would be far better for the state. She is a person not fit for office.

Myths about border crossings
Trump's lies about the "disaster" at the border continue even though they're very incorrect. Illegal crossings along the U.S. southern border fell to a 3-year low in June following President Biden's drastic move to curtail asylum and continued efforts by Mexico to stop migrants heading north. This fact is from CBS news, July 1, 2024. This latest lie about a huge border fiasco is just another myth much like that "huge" caravan that was supposed to invade this country a few years ago was.

Our, not theirs!
Kamala Harris, with your incredible display of energy and class, you have turned this election around. Now Trump is the "old guy", still unable to exercise his invective in any way that makes sense, other than just ugly.
Now a confused Trump is on display for all to see, unable to deal with an image of our democratic society presented for all of us to enjoy...while he continues his complete negativity, bragging about how he will eliminate voting, even telling his "base" how even their voting won't be necessary in this world owned by him and those hopefully generous billionaires.
It's interesting how Kamala Harris has made it fun again to think of a world that includes us ... one we would all want to live in. Say goodbye to negativity, hate, and despotism. Say hello to the continued promise of a democratic future for all Americans! Meanwhile, never forget the importance of your vote ... see you all at the ballot box next November, proclaiming our country "ours," once again!

Choice is on the ballot
What accounts for the current Kamala Harris Presidential groundswell?
Well, it is akin to watching the house fall on the wicked witch in Oz. It’s like waking up from a bad dream of a creepy uncle and his footmen. It is saying no to a halls of mirrors. It is a repudiation of a repetitive stream of lies, hate, deceit and violent threat. It is walking away from schoolyard antics and finger pointing. It is calling an end to the sociopathic vision of a cultural apocalypse and it’s death cult mentality that culminated this week with the pronouncement, “You will never have to vote again.” That choice is ours now.

Misinformed Republicans
Re: the July 31 letter "Democrats' threat to democracy."
I am overwhelmed with how much this letter writer intends to dazzle you with disinformation and spread his hate. Did he forget about the 14th amendment and how the supreme courts ruled immediately, that only Congress could act on it? All of Trump's charges were in 2023. If he was innocent he had plenty of opportunity to clear his name before an election year. Miraculously no trials before election.
I don’t care about Hunter, he’s not holding any public office or running for any.
Forty of 44 of Trump’s staff from his first administration would not endorse him again. When Joe stepped down, it felt like a weight had been lifted off of us. I’m proud that the democrats did something unconventional. Sorry your angry that y’all spent years beating Joe up for nothing.
We understand how dangerous another Trump term would be. Trump wants to insure the country remains in control of rich white men.

What former R's say about Trump
Peter Wehner writes: "Since 2015, I have repeatedly warned Republicans about Mr. Trump, describing him as the kind of demagogue the founders feared, malignant and malicious, a man with a disordered personality. At this point eight years ago, I said that while the struggle for the Republican nomination was over, the struggle for the soul of the party was not.
Once Mr. Trump won the presidency, I knew it was. He and the Republican Party fused ideologically; it’s now a populist rather than a conservative party. Its instincts are nativist, protectionist and isolationist. But the most significant fusion is ethical and moral. The Republican Party keeps getting darker. It has become anti-intellectual, conspiracy-minded and authoritarian, intemperate and brutish, transgressive and anarchistic. And there’s no end in sight."
Call it Liz Cheney syndrome.

Trump's dementia
Having watched family members decline into dementia, I’m seeing it with Trump. He slurs words and cannot pronounce four syllable words like infrastructure or Venezuela. He loses his train of thought in the middle of sentences. He goes on nonsensical rants about electric boats, sharks and Hannibal Lector…what the hell does that have to do with anything?
In my estimation, he will be in memory care two or three years from now. The idea of JD Vance as president scares the hell out of me.

SW Gas rate hike
Re: the July 29 article "Fighting another Southwest Gas rate hike."
I was surprised in reading Ms. Greenwald’s opinion on the SW Gas rate hike, that she only made passing reference to the AZ Corporate Commission. This commission is known to rubber stamp rate increases by utility companies. It has done so for the last three TEP rate hikes. The current commission is made up of four Republicans and one Democrat. This November, three members will be replaced and if you look at the Republican and Democratic candidates running, what a vast difference! This is not a partisan issue, it is about your pocket book. When filling out your ballot in November, if you want to be able to keep your bills low — the water, gas and electricity — you should vote for all three Democratic candidates, regardless of your party affiliation. The candidates are Ylenia Aguilar; Jonathon Hill, Joshua Polacheck.

Kamala VP to President
For all of you letter writers complaining about us being "disenfranchised" because President Biden bowed out and VP Harris is now in, please read the Constitution. I voted in the primaries for Biden/Harris knowing full well that if Biden became unable to lead, Harris would take over. Everyone who voted for Biden also voted for Harris, so shut up already. You should be way more worried about the other VP candidate!
