The City has a lack of oversight as to how departments are spending their budgeted money and if they could be using it more effectively. There appears to be no oversight to look for, and reduce, waste in the City processes. Other larger and smaller cities (Phoenix, Scottsdale, Albuquerque, El Paso) have been auditing their city department processes for years, creating accountability and helping to find where waste is occurring. And they post the audit reports for all to see. The City of Tucson underutilizes these types of tools to reduce needed taxpayer dollars. City management needs to adopt standards for reducing waste, not just reducing headcount, taking away people to provide our services.
