Does anyone else see the irony of a “build-the-wall” meeting being held in a gated community? The Feb. 8 invitation-only gathering at Quail Creek, a luxury retirement destination in Sahuarita, was just that. In addition to a gated entrance, Quail Creek residents enjoy “the comfort of a roving patrol,” as the development’s website points out. “Quail Creek is a world of its own,” the site says, where you can enjoy “the relaxing warmth of friendly neighbors.”
But the Quail Creek attitude (or sales pitch, at least) is a symptom, not the epidemic itself. As a nation we’re all ailing when any of us needs not one but two walls, plus a roving patrol, to relax with the neighbors.
