A big thanks to "Pickles" (comic) for bringing attention to the deplorable condition of our children's school playgrounds. Here on the eastside, no monkey bars; restricted slide and swings; can't play tag; can;t play foursquare; can't dig holes in the sandbox; restriction on how boys can play football. Little girls can't hold their friends hands; friends can't talk to other friends without "supervision" telling them they are flirting. (the 9 yr old had to go home and ask her mom, "What is flirting?") The micro management of this playtime(?) deprives our children the basic, fundamental opportunity to learn how to share; how to get along, how to resolve conflict; how to be productive citizens! How sad! Shame on us adults!
