Candidates for nomination for Congressional District 3

  • Jul 24, 2018
  • Jul 24, 2018

Candidates are listed in alphabetical order by last name. The Democratic nomination is not contested, so only Republican candidates are listed.

Sergio Arellano

Sergio Arellano

Sergio Arellano is a Republican candidate in CD 3 in 2018 primary

Name: Sergio Arellano

Race: CD 3

Party affiliation: Republican

Statement:

My name is Sergio Arellano and I am born and raised in Tucson, AZ.

My parents are from Sonora Mexico and I am 1st generation American. At the age of 17 I joined the U.S Army to serve my country as a form of gratitude to this nation for allowing my parents to be here thanks to President Reagan’s amnesty. I went on to serve honorably for 10 ½ years before leaving the Army due to combat sustained injuries.

Nationally, every 26 seconds 7,000 students drop out of school, our school dropout rate is triple the national average in CD3. In CD3 the unemployment rate is also 4 times the national average. To say this district is in dire need of jobs and better educational / vocational opportunities is an understatement. Every day in this Nation 22 veterans commit suicide. For Fiscal Year Y2019, Congress requested only an appropriation of $198 million for Veterans’ suicide prevention. In the same Bill, Congress requested $18.5 billion for unauthorized immigrants’ health care. Recently, Congress once again raided the social security surplus of $2 Trillion to fund the defense welfare of other nations; Money seniors worked hard for to finance their golden years with and money Congress claims doesn’t exist.

Congress is out of control, we need to elect people who have a fresh point of view and new ideas. Someone that is willing to work with both sides of the aisle to get the funds and representation where it is due.

Why is Sergio Arellano the only choice for the Republican nomination? Because I overcame the adversities of growing up in Arizona’s 3rd District, I want everyone to have the opportunity like I did, to achieve their American dream and prosper. My name is Sergio Arellano and I am asking for your vote.

Nicholas Pierson

Nick Pierson

Nick Pierson, a Republican, is running for Congress in District 3.

Name: Nick Pierson

Race: CD 3

Party affiliation: Republican

Statement:

I am a Republican running for Congress in Congressional District 3.

I was born in Nogales, Arizona, although my family is from Sonora, Mexico, and my mother is from Sinaloa, Mexico. My father taught school on the Tohono O’Odham and the White Mountain Apache Indian reservations where I grew up. Marolyn and I have been married for 47 years and we have raised 3 children and have 5 grandchildren with 2 more on the way. After graduating from the University of Arizona, I enlisted and spent 8 years in the Army Reserves during the Viet Nam war. Later, I completed 40 years of service as a Financial Advisor with Northwestern Mutual and spent many years volunteering in the community. I understand money. I understand this District. I will bring a lifetime of experience to the job of Congressman.

I have the experience, the stability, the maturity and the skill set to successfully represent my District in Congress. With a stable record of consistent performance over many years, I will put the community first, not my interests or those of the good “old” boys. As a veteran I will be the voice for veterans.

This Congressional District has one of the highest unemployment rates in the United States. We can do better! We must! Congressional District 3 has some of the lowest K-12 educational test scores in all 435 districts. I will work in each community to improve quality of life issues including water, sewage treatment and wait lines at the border. We can do much better than what the incumbent has done. I will work tirelessly to bring jobs to Congressional District 3. I will fight for better education in District 3. Join me in my campaign to improve the lives of people in Congressional District 3.

Edna San Miguel

Name: Edna San Miguel

Race: CD 3

Party affiliation: Republican

Statement:

My name is Edna San Miguel, I am running for Arizona U.S. Congress CD 3 2018. Many have asked "Can a former American child farm worker become your next voice in Washington D.C.?" The uphill challenges of becoming your next Arizona Congresswoman are minute compared the my life long struggles as a child, and maintaining my family's physical and emotional needs as an adult and single mother. I spent my childhood as a child migrant field worker. My mother, my siblings and I would take a Greyhound Bus from Tucson to Sacramento, California and meet up with family to work the Hollister apricot smelter processing plant, all throughout the 60's. We are natural born Citizens of the United States of America. My family has lived in Tucson since the 1800's. We are those strong silent conservative American Latinos who care about family, education, and our strong belief in our Lord Jesus Christ.

I do not begrudge the experience. My family worked together, my mother sold tamales to support my father's endeavors to gain an education at the University of Arizona and ASU. Becoming that school teacher, administrator at Tucson High School, Mr. Adalberto (Wimpy) Aguilar. And today I am a school teacher, specializing in children with autism. I am a nationally acclaimed published author with the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum on the restoration of the arts and antiquities of our Mission, San Xavier Del Bac. Hired by the Guggenheim Museum, N.Y., as an international conservationist. I support the U.S. Constitution as it is written, I will uphold the Oath of Office when in Congress, and all decisions are made through prayer first. Meet me at the Mission Library on July 28th, at 10:00 am with your questions and concerns. sanmiguelforcongress.com - sanmiguelforcongress@gmail.com- Edna San Miguel for Congress 2018 Facebook.
