Low-Budget Movies That Turned Into Box Office Hits
Over the years, several unexpected Hollywood hits have proven that a film doesn’t need a massive budget to be successful. Sylvester Stallone’s Academy Award-winning film ‘Rocky’ came from humble beginnings. According to a 1990 Vanity Fair profile, Stallone initially rejected a $360,000 offer for the script because the producers wanted someone else to play the lead. The decision paid off, with Stallone securing a $1 million budget and ‘Rocky’ ultimately grossing $225 million worldwide. The 2004 film ‘Napoleon Dynamite’, directed by Jared Hess, was made by a group of recently graduated Brigham Young University film students on a budget of just $400,000. The film was financed partly with money borrowed from the brother of producer Jeremy Coon and was shot in just three weeks.
