National Great Outdoors Month: Clinton's 1998 Proclamation, National Parks and America's Public Lands Summer
President Bill Clinton proclaimed Great Outdoors Week in 1998, and every president since has expanded it to a full month of June. Marlo Anderson and National Day Calendar celebrate National Great Outdoors Month by highlighting America's 63 national parks, 154 national forests and 640 million acres of federal public land — from Yellowstone's geysers to Appalachia's ridges and Colorado's 14ers. Pack a tent, lace up hiking boots, launch a kayak, chase a trout stream or roast marshmallows over a rock-ring fire.
