‘I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best’: Paul Rudd on singing in musical comedy Power Ballad
Writer-director John Carney has returned with another uplifting musical comedy, Power Ballad, starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas. In the film, Rudd stars as Rick Power, a past-his-prime wedding singer who meets fading boy-band star Danny Wilson, played by Jonas, during a gig. The two bond over music and a late-night jam session. Rudd, 57, who is best known for comedic roles in films such as Knocked Up and This Is 40, says this was the first time he had ever sung seriously in a role.

When Paul Rudd signed on for "Power Ballad,” the film’s key song hadn’t been written. “It kind of has to work,” he remembers saying. “We’re hinging this thing on it.”
"This is just a feel-good bro-com that demonstrates (Paul) Rudd can sing and (Nick) Jonas has potential," Bruce Miller writes in his review of "Power Ballad," in theaters now.
