Tom Cruise’s ‘Digger’ Bombs With $8M Opening Weekend
‘Digger’ has flopped at the box office, opening with just $8 million in North America and $20 million globally. The Warner Bros. release earned only $8 million across 3,321 theaters, giving Tom Cruise one of the weakest openings of his career. The Alejandro G Iñárritu-directed satire struggled overseas, generating just $12 million from 74 international markets despite Cruise’s strong global appeal. With a $160-$180 million production budget and another $100 million spent on marketing, ‘Digger’ is facing staggering losses. The film had been positioned as an awards-season contender, drawing comparisons to Warner Bros’ ‘One Battle After Another.’ ‘One Battle After Another’ earned $213.2 million worldwide and won Best Picture at the Oscars, while ‘Digger’ has received mostly negative reviews and a C+ on CinemaScore. Amazon MGM’s ‘Verity’ opened at number one with $32.6 million. The film stars Dakota Johnson and Anne Hathaway and is based on Colleen Hoover’s novel. Warner Bros has yet to produce a $100 million domestic hit this year, although‘Dune: Part III’ is expected to change that in December.
