Judge Orders White House Access Be Restored To Media
A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to immediately reinstate White House access for CNN, MS NOW, and Politico, saying the ban was likely unconstitutional. The order, issued by District Judge Timothy Kelly, grants a 14-day temporary restraining order restoring the outlets’ access while their legal challenge proceeds. The three media outlets filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration after their reporters had their passes confiscated and were denied entry to the White House. According to Kelly, the outlets are likely to succeed in their lawsuit, at least on the grounds that their passes were revoked without due process. The Trump administration defended the ban in court, accusing the outlets of publishing false information and threatening national security. The court rejected the argument that the ban was motivated by national security concerns, noting that it contradicted Trump’s original reasoning for his directive.
