No Major Trade Deal Made On Trump’s Beijing Trip
US President Donald Trump has left Beijing, calling the trip “successful” despite not making any major trade deal or structural agreement. During his trip, Trump met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and was expected to discuss the current tense trade relationship between the two countries. The president was accompanied on his trip by several high-profile CEOs from the aviation, agriculture, electric vehicle, and artificial intelligence sectors. Among those who joined Trump on his trip were Apple CEO Tim Cook, Tesla’s Elon Musk, as well as executives from JPMorgan and Boeing. The meeting, which lasted two days and featured elaborate ceremonies, did not result in any large trade breakthrough or significant business agreements. After the summit, Trump called it “very successful,” while Xi described it as a “historic and landmark” visit. During an interview with Fox News, Trump revealed that China had agreed to order 200 Boeing planes, a smaller number than analysts had predicted. In relation to Tech, Trump claimed that “China is going to invest hundreds of billions of dollars with those people,” but did not provide any further details.
