Former MVP Westbrook Retires After 18 Seasons
Former MVP Russell Westbrook has announced his retirement from the NBA after 18 seasons. After a strong collegiate career with UCLA, Westbrook was drafted by the Seattle Supersonics, who were later renamed the Oklahoma City Thunder, as the fourth overall pick in 2008. Westbrook notched 31.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 10.4 assists per game during the 2016/17 season to win MVP and become the first player to average a triple-double since Oscar Robertson in 1962. The nine-time All-NBA player holds the record for the most triple doubles in a single season with 42 and in NBA history with 209. Westbrook was traded to the Houston Rockets in 2019 before stints with the Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, the Clippers, the Denver Nuggets, and the Kings.
