Trump Promises $5,000 To Every American If Republicans Win Midterms
US President Donald Trump has vowed to pay every American adult a $5,000 “Trump dividend” if Republicans retain control of Congress in November’s midterm elections. The president made the pledge during a speech at the Republican Party’s first-ever midterm convention. Trump did not clarify how the payments would work, how they would be funded, or whether they would be legal. With nearly 270 million American adults, the $5,000 payout would cost the US government around $1.35 trillion. Speaking at the convention in Dallas, Texas, Trump stated: “We don't want you going to China, to Germany. You've got to spend the money in the United States of America”. The pledge comes as prices in the US continue to rise, driven in part by the impact of the US war with Iran. During his speech, Trump also boasted about completing “the greatest two years in the history of the presidency” and urged voters to “pretend I’m on the ballot” in the midterm election.
