A billowing cloud of dust kicked up by gusty winds envelopes a west bound truck as it sweeps over I-10 just north of the Sunshine Blvd interchange near Eloy, Ariz. in 2012. Traffic came to a halt several times on that stretch of the highway due to low visibility from the dust.

Parched lands in Red Rock, AZ, off about two miles east of I-10 on Park Link Drive can result in lack of soil retention, thereby allowing wind to kick up particles resulting in sand storms.
