For the eighth time in program history, the Arizona Wildcats volleyball team is headed to the Sweet 16.
The UA stunned No. 9 Michigan State 17-25, 25-16, 25-19, 24-26, 15-10on Saturday, winning the East Lansing, Michigan bracket and advancing to the round of 16. The Wildcats will face either Kentucky or eighth-ranked Washington with a chance to advance to the round of eight.
Kalei Mau led the UA with 23 kills, and Kendra Dahlke added 22. Penina Snuka led the UA with 52 assists. The team beat Cleveland State in Friday’s first round.
The Wildcats (20-14) narrowly missed an opportunity to put the Michigan State away in the fourth set, but made up for it with a hot start in the fifth and decisive set. Mau rattled off back-to-back kills to make it 8-2, and Dahlke’s kill made it 9-2. Dahlke delivered the match-winning kill to put the Spartans away.
