Arizona center Tobe Awaka was named the Big 12's Newcomer of the Week after averaging a double-double in the Wildcats' wins over BYU and Texas Tech.
Awaka scored 14 points in both games while collecting nine rebounds in UA's 85-74 win at BYU on Feb. 4 and 11 rebounds in the Wildcats' 82-73 win over Texas Tech on Feb. 8.
Awaka ranks fourth overall in the Big 12 in rebounding during conference games with an average of 8.0. In pace-adjusted terms, he's second nationally in offensive rebounding percentage during all UA games, rebounding the ball on 19.1% of opponents' missed shots when he's on the floor. Awaka also has a defensive rebounding percentage of 26.9 that ranks 29th nationally.
Awaka is Arizona's first winner of the Big 12's Newcomer of the Week award, coming a week after guard Caleb Love became UA's first winner of the Big 12 Player of the Week award.
