Carlos Hernandez, a 31-year-old from Hermosillo, won today's 25th UMC El Tour de Tucson in a record time of 4 hours, 10 minutes, 51 seconds over 109 miles.
Hernandez edged Michael Grabinger, the 2006 champion from Flagstaff, at the finish line. Grabinger finished in 4:10:52.
The women's winner was Laura Van Gilder, 42, of Kutztown, Pa., in 4:16:11.
More than 9,000 cyclists participated in five races including 109, 80 and 66 and 33 miles, along with a kids ride. El Tour is the largest participatory sporting event in Southern Arizona.
