The Tucson Toros are playing their “final game” on Thursday, according to a team release, after the city terminated the team’s lease last month.
Owner Jay Zucker said in a statement the team will announce the Toros’ guest field managers at a press conference Tuesday, and play a doubleheader Thursday.
The City of Tucson sent the team a letter June 24 to terminate its lease, claiming the team had abandoned the stadium by not playing in regular baseball games. The Toros ceased to play games this season after the arrival of the Triple-A Tucson Padres. The Toros put on events, including a regular “Thirsty Thursday” contest between semi-pro teams, this season.
