The Arizona Wildcats will have something extra to play for tonight: Another week at home.
St. John’s defeated North Carolina 9-5 in today’s Chapel Hill, N.C., Regional, meaning the UA will likely host next week’s Super Regionals if it can win the Hi Corbett Field bracket. The Tar Heels were seeded No. 8 nationally; with them out, the UA becomes the highest remaining seed in their part of the bracket.
The Wildcats can clinch the Tucson regional title by winning tonight at 8. Should they lose, they’d play again Monday night in a winner-take-all game.
Arizona hasn’t hosted Super Regionals since the advent of the format. The last time Arizona made the Supers, in 2008, it traveled to Miami, Fla.
