With the healthy return of two starters, a standout supporting performance by Grant Williams and blistering 3-point shooting, the Boston Celtics evened their NBA Eastern Conference Finals series with the Miami Heat at a game apiece behind a 127-102 rout Thursday night at FTX Arena.
Marcus Smart (24 points, 12 assists) came back from an ankle injury. Al Horford (10 points, three rebounds) was in the lineup after sitting for health and safety protocols. Williams answered the call off the bench, providing both an offensive and defensive spark. He scored 19 points and added four rebounds and a steal. Boston made 10 of 20 treys.
The Celtics' one-two punch of Jayson Tatum (27 points) and Jaylen Brown (24 points, eight boards) was again on point.
Jimmy Butler (29 points, six rebounds) was one of only two Miami starters in double figures. Gabe Vincent (14 points) was the other. Victor Oladipo (14 points) and Tyler Herro (11 points) were tops off the bench.
Game 3 is Saturday night at TD Garden.
