Rory McIlroy will look to help Europe extend its 30-year streak of Ryder Cup victories on home soil.
As Wyndham Clark walked off the 18th green at the 2023 U.S. Open as its champion on Sunday in Los Angeles, eyes turned toward next month’s fourth-and-final major: the British Open at Royal Liverpool.
This is the 13th time in history that the course in Hoylake, Wirral, England, will play host the Open Championship, which will be held July 20-23.
The last time it was played at Royal Liverpool was 2014. The winner? Rory McIlroy.
The Northern Irishman is the favorite at two of the four major sportsbooks to win there again, sitting at +750 at DraftKings and +800 at FanDuel the day after the U.S. Open ended.
McIlroy finished solo second on Sunday at the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club, which was the 17th top-5 finish in a major during his career.
But McIlroy isn’t far-and-away the frontrunner to win next month, as world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler leads the odds boards at BetMGM, currently sitting at +750 to win; while the second-ranked golfer in the world Jon Rahm is Caesars’ favorite at +750.
Out of that threesome, however, McIlroy is the only player to win a British Open.

Of course, Scheffler won the 2022 Masters and Rahm slipped on the green jacket this past April. McIlroy hasn’t won a major since 2014, when he won at Royal Liverpool and then again at Valhalla in August 2014 in the PGA Championship.
Scheffler hasn’t finished outside the top 10 in a major yet this season, tying for 10th at the Masters in April, then T2 at the PGA Championship in May at Oak Hill, followed by a solo third place this weekend at the U.S. Open.
After winning at Augusta National, Rahm turned in at T50 at the PGA Championship before a T10 this weekend in LA.
Brooks Koepka, who won the PGA Championship last month for his fifth career major, is fourth on the odds boards at all four major sportsbooks, currently +1200 at FanDuel and BetMGM and +1400 at Caesars and DraftKings. Kopeka finished tied for 17th at the U.S. Open.
Clark, who won his first major in seven starts, is +3500 at DraftKings and +5000 at BetMGM.
Cameron Smith, who is the defending British Open champion, winning at St. Andrews, is +2000 to go back-to-back.
