College basketball National Championship odds 2023-24

This year, the teams at the top of the odds table to win the NCAA basketball national championship are dominated by powerhouse schools. Schools like Kansas, Duke and Kentucky are all near the top. These are teams with long track records of success.

Last year, the Connecticut Huskies dominated en route to a national championship. This year, they’re once again near the top of the odds table. You can make an argument for a lot of different teams to make it all the way this season.

NCAA basketball National Championship predictions: 2024 Final Four picks

While there are a lot of teams that have a pathway to making a deep run in March this year, savvy bettors will be looking for a few key characteristics. Here are our picks for teams that we think can make some noise in the 2024 Final Four.

Final Four pick: Purdue (+1400 or better)

Purdue returns perhaps the best player in the country in Zach Edey. The Canadian big man easily averaged a double-double last season including more than 20 points-per-game. He’s back with another year of working out and should only be better as he terrorizes opponents on both ends of the floor.

Purdue was eliminated in a shocking first-round loss last season in March Madness as a one-seed. However, the last time that happened - with Virginia - the Cavaliers went on to win the whole thing the next season. Expect all of Purdue’s returners to have an extra chip on their shoulder as they go through this season.

Final Four pick: Michigan State (+2000 or better)

Tom Izzo is coaching Michigan State for the 28th consecutive season. With Izzo at the helm, you know that Michigan State is going to be disciplined and at least be a solid team. The coach is not the only familiar face on this Michigan State team. They also return just shy of 80% of the total minutes played last season, meaning that they are experienced and deep as they gear up for another run.

With so much experience on the court and behind the bench, this Michigan State team should not experience the growing pains that other younger teams will likely go through. Look for guard A.J. Hoggard to be a leader, as he scored more than 12 points-per-game last season and controlled the pace of play.

Final Four pick: Houston (+2500 or better)

Houston is another team that you should consider backing as we start this college basketball season. It has joined a new conference and is now part of the Big 12, which should offer some new challenges.

Houston prides itself on defense as it ranked in the top three across the entire country last season in points allowed per game. Defense is what wins championships when it gets down to it, and although they did not win last year, we like that strong defense to propel them to another successful season.

They brought in two big players through the transfer portal in Damian Dunn and L.J. Cryer, who should only help this Cougars team perform better.
