New York quarterback Daniel Jones and the Giants face the Detroit Lions in their first preseason game of 2023.
We finally have a full slate of NFL games to choose from at online sportsbooks, and below we've compiled our favorite Week 1 NFL preseason picks.
Week 1 preseason predictions: Bet on the Texans vs. Patriots on Thursday?
The Texans and the Patriots both have quarterback competitions, whether the head coaches are willing to admit it or not.
Houston invested the second-overall pick in C.J. Stroud and have an incumbent in Davis Mills that at least has some NFL experience. For the Patriots, both Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe had their ups and downs and could see the field if the other struggles.
Houston is a younger team with players that are desperate to make the roster. First-year head coach DeMeco Ryans is a motivator who will look to use this game to catalyze his team as it prepares for what is expected to be a struggle of a regular season.
Pick: Texans -2.5 (-115 or better)

Giants vs. Lions picks: Bet Big Blue over Detroit on Friday?
The Giants and Lions both exceeded what was expected of them in 2022 and were among the more competitive crop of NFC teams.
Expectations for the Lions are high this year (ninth in Super Bowl odds), but we like the Giants against the spread in Preseason Week 1.
Nate Sudfield will likely see lots of time on the field with Teddy Bridgewater playing a bit. Rookie Hendon Hooker is dealing with an injury and starter Jared Goff is unlikely to play much (if at all).
The bottom line is that we like the Giants’ QB situation (Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito) more and that the spread doesn’t cross any critical numbers.
Pick: Giants -3 (-110 or better)
Titans vs. Bears predictions: Make Chicago one of your Week 1 NFL preseason picks?
The Titans spent a second-round draft pick on Will Levis this summer and a third-round pick on Malik Willis the year before.
If either of them is worth their weight in salt, they will be able to post a decent box score against the backups of a Bears team that surrendered the most points in the league last year.
Justin Fields also has an uncommon skill set and one that backups PJ Walker, Nathan Peterman and Tyson Bagent do not share, which means that the transition from first- to second- and third-team action will be rigid and will lack fluidity.
We believe the Bears’ preseason offense will mostly look horrible because of the lack of continuity in the play calling. Titans defensive line coach Terrell Williams will also be looking to make an impact after earning the opportunity to take over head coaching duties for this game.
Pick: Titans +3.5 (-110 or better)
