College football Week 6 props to watch

There are bigger names on the ledger, but good luck finding a bigger game than TCU’s visit to Kansas.

It trumps the battle of unranked Texas and Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl and feels more significant than two-loss Texas A&M rolling into Tuscaloosa to face No. 1 Alabama.

That's a staggering development given the preseason odds for the Jayhawks and Horned Frogs. 

TCU was +1500 to win the Big 12 Conference at DraftKings; not great odds, but at least in the top five. Kansas was an astronomical +30000, which has since improved to +1800. 

At the center of the Jayhawks’ expectations-defying success is dual-threat quarterback Jalon Daniels, a playmaker who has proven he can make a difference via the pass with three games of three-plus touchdown throws; or on the ground, with touchdowns in 4-of-5 contests.

Kansas QB Jalon Daniels 2+ touchdowns (rushing or receiving), FanDuel 

Daniels at +280 to score two-plus rushing touchdowns is an intriguing prop in this unlikely matchup of high interest. TCU’s rush defense has been solid overall and yet to allow an opponent more than 3.9 yards per carry over a contest, but the Horned Frogs’ last two opponents scored three rushing touchdowns. 

Daniels is Kansas’ leading rusher thus far, and against TCU’s aggressive pass-rush defense, the quarterback’s ability to improvise could factor into the outcome. 

Texas RB Bijan Robinson over 99.5 yards rushing, DraftKings 

There is another game in the Big 12 on Saturday that might be of interest. Texas and Oklahoma converge for their annual meeting in the 118th installment of the Red River Rivalry. 

Eight of the last nine meetings were decided by one possession (including a Big 12 Championship Game in 2018), with last season’s 55-48 roller-coaster Sooners’ win. OU has won four in a row against Texas. 

Points and yards poured into this series, and last season Texas’ Robinson did his part with 137 rushing yards and a touchdown. Robinson’s performance was part of a run in which he gained at least 127 yards over five games, similar to his stretch preceding this year’s meeting. 

Since accruing just 57 yards on 21 carries against an always-stout Alabama defense, Robinson eclipsed 100 yards in each of the last three contests. 

While this is a new-look Oklahoma team compared to last year’s, which was coordinated by the oft-maligned Alex Grinch, longtime defensive maven and first-year Sooners head coach Brent Venables has yet to work any magic on that side of the ball. 

Oklahoma has been dreadful against the run, allowing 198.2 rushing yards per game. Only four Power Five conference teams have been worse, and two of them -- Nebraska and Colorado -- fired their head coaches.

With Quinn Ewers expected to return at quarterback, Robinson may not need to carry a heavy load -- but that probably will not matter against this Sooners defense. 

Utah WR Devaughn Vele +100 anytime touchdown, FanDuel

UCLA draws its second top 20-ranked, Pac-12 opponent at the Rose Bowl in as many weeks. A 40-32 win over Washington last Friday vaulted the previously under-the-radar Bruins into the polls, but they face a tough task. 

The Utes are reigning conference champions and rebounded nicely from a Week 1 loss at Florida, particularly on offense. Utah is putting up 42 points per game behind Cameron Rising. His numbers are thus far the best of any Utes quarterback since Alex Smith in 2004. Since conference play began two weeks ago, Vele has been a key contributor to that success. 

He produced modest pass-catching numbers the first two weeks, but broke out with a pair of scores in Week 3 against San Diego State. In the last two games, Vele has caught six and seven passes, and reached the end zone again in last Saturday’s defeat of Oregon State. 

Half of the total passing touchdowns the UCLA defense has allowed were in last week’s game, but the Bruins primarily saw weak passing attacks the first four games. Vele’s size (6-foot-4) with Rising also leaning heavily on tight end Dalton Kincaid (an intriguing +110 for a touchdown per FanDuel) will force UCLA to pick its poison defending in the red zone.
