Trevor Lawrence is the likely top pick, but who are the other top quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft? Find out.

1. Trevor Lawrence (Jr., Clemson, 6-foot-5, 213 pounds)

1. Trevor Lawrence (Jr., Clemson, 6-foot-5, 213 pounds)

Lawrence checks every box — physical and mental — as a generational talent. He went 86-4 in seven seasons as a starting quarterback in high school and college, his four losses coming in the playoffs. Projected: First overall

Gerald Herbert

2. Trey Lance (So., North Dakota St., 6-3, 224)

2. Trey Lance (So., North Dakota St., 6-3, 224)

Size, athleticism and arm strength remind me of Steve McNair. His poise and pocket presence are advanced for someone with only 17 career starts and zero experience facing FBS-level competition. Projected: Top 10

Sam Hodde

3. Zach Wilson (Jr., BYU, 6-2, 214)

3. Zach Wilson (Jr., BYU, 6-2, 214)

The youngest quarterback to ever start for the Cougars, Wilson's elite arm talent enables him to thrive in off-platform situations. His improvisational skills are Saturday Night Live-worthy. There are durability concerns due to a slight frame and past injuries (labrum surgery on his throwing shoulder and a broken right thumb). Projected: Top 3

Richard Shiro

4. Justin Fields (Jr., Ohio St., 6-2, 227)

4. Justin Fields (Jr., Ohio St., 6-2, 227)

Fields features elite athleticism, arm talent and leadership qualities. The toughness he exhibited during the 2021 Sugar Bowl against Clemson was impressive. He has a tendency to stare down targets, which can get him in trouble when he's under duress. Projected: Top 10

Paul Vernon

5. Mac Jones (Jr., Alabama, 6-2, 217)

5. Mac Jones (Jr., Alabama, 6-2, 217)

Jones has adequate arm strength, but it's his accuracy where he sets himself apart in this class — he set a NCAA single-season record for completion percentage (77.4%). How much of his success was due to a near-perfect situation in Tuscaloosa? Projected: 1st round

Lynne Sladky

6. Davis Mills (Jr., Stanford, 6-3, 217)

6. Davis Mills (Jr., Stanford, 6-3, 217)

Mills' arm talent is as impressive as BYU's Wilson, but he only had 11 career starts for the Cardinal and there are durability concerns. Projected: 2nd to 4th round

Elaine Thompson

7. Kellen Mond (Sr., Texas A&M, 6-2, 211)

7. Kellen Mond (Sr., Texas A&M, 6-2, 211)

Mond is the third SEC quarterback to produce 9,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in a career (Tim Tebow and Dak Prescott were the others). Projected: 3rd or 4th round

Lynne Sladky

8. Sam Ehlinger (Sr., Texas, 6-1, 220)

8. Sam Ehlinger (Sr., Texas, 6-1, 220)

Ehlinger is a four-year starter with dual-threat ability. His decision-making and anticipation will need to be coached up in the NFL. Projected: 5th round to 7th round

Matthew Hinton

9. Kyle Trask (Sr., Florida, 6-5, 236)

9. Kyle Trask (Sr., Florida, 6-5, 236)

Trask had a prolific senior season — he led the FBS with 43 touchdown passes — but almost half of his 4,283 yards came after the catch. He's a statue in the pocket, and his inconsistent mechanics could make that a detriment to his potential at the next level. Projected: 2nd or 3rd round

Ron Jenkins

10. Jamie Newman (Sr., Georgia, 6-2, 234)

10. Jamie Newman (Sr., Georgia, 6-2, 234)

Newman has all the physical traits scouts look for and was productive as a starter for Wake Forest in 2019 (he opted out last season due to COVID-19). Projected: 5th to 7th round

Marta Lavandier

BONUS. Feleipe Franks (Sr., Arkansas, 6-6, 234)

BONUS. Feleipe Franks (Sr., Arkansas, 6-6, 234)

Franks features elite arm strength and capable mobility within the pocket considering his size. He needs to develop consistency to have a shot in the NFL. Projected: 7th round or UFA

Dieter Kurtenbach: I think Kyle Shanahan showed his hand — Mac Jones is going to be the 49ers’ pick at No. 3

If Alabama quarterback Mac Jones isn’t the 49ers’ selection with the No. 3 pick in Thursday’s first round of the NFL Draft, then San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan is truly an incredible actor.
