High School football: Mica, CDO stay unbeaten ahead of showdown as Empire outlasts AmphiThree highly-ranked, 5-1 Tucson teams (Pusch Ridge, Sabino and Tanque Verde) were upended in Week 8 by Eastern Arizona upstarts (Morenci, Thatcher and Willcox, respectively) on another big Friday across the high school football landscape in Tucson and surrounding communities.
James Kelley opinion: Obviously, neither Mica Mountain (6-0) nor Canyon del Oro (6-0) would go so far as to tank this Friday night's matchup. But with the way the state's high school football playoff system is set up, the loser just might be better off.
High school football across Tucson and surrounding communities — looking back at Week 7 and ahead to Week 8: Empire is our team of the week, but there's no hiding from the biggest game on the calendar (perhaps the season?) between Mica Mountain and Canyon del Oro.
