Maracana: A different sort of football from Ivory Coast
A field with the same dimensions as a handball court. Six players but no goalkeeper. This is, in a few words, the game of maracana, a sort of football invented in the 1970s on the Cocody university campus, in Abidjan. Though it takes its name from the famous Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, this sport is an Ivorian creation.
