Goaltender Matthew Villalta stopped 35 of 36 shots against in pacing the Roadrunners to a 2-1 win at the Texas Stars. It was Tucson’s second win in two days to start the 2023-24 season 2-0.
Entering weekend action, new Tucson Roadrunners goaltender Matthew Villalta is one of only seven goalies in the AHL to have played four games, while Villalta is best among those in save percentage, at .939, and goals against average, at 1.77. Tucson is 3-1 to start the year.
The Tucson Roadrunners tabbed veteran defenseman Steven Kampfer as their captain for the 2023-24 AHL season, with forwards Zach Sanford and Ben McCartney named the Southern Arizona AHL team's alternate captains.
