The Wildcats throw a Sun Bowl-record eight interceptions — six by Bruce Lee — but the score is still tied at halftime 10-10 after Lee's late 12-yard TD pass to Hal Arnanson. The Wildcats give up 24 points in the second half, including a 32-yard Buddy McClinton interception return. Arizona, coached by Darrell Mudra, finishes 8-3 under captains Thomas Nelson and Mike Moody.
