Cooler evenings combined with the Friday before a holiday are made for family fun.ย

If you're looking for places you can take the family to this Friday, we've got a few ideas for you.ย

1. Summer Safari Nights

It might be too hot for the Reid Park Zoo during the day, but thanks to Summer Safari Nights, you can enjoy it during the cool evening hours, from 6-8 p.m.ย

This Friday, June 1, the theme is "Spots and Stripes Forever: Zebra, Giraffe, Tiger, Tapir & Jaguar."

Aside from the usual animal exhibits, there will be live entertainment, face painting, glitter tattoos and free admission for members of the military (their families can get in for half price).

The zoo is located at 3400 E. Zoo Court. Admission is $9 for adults; $7 for seniors and $5 for kids ages 2-14. ย

2. Live Music Under the Stars

Tony Kishman โ€” known for his work in the Broadway musical, "Beatlemania" โ€” ย will play the acoustic music of The Beatles and Wings outside at Colossal Cave Mountain Park,ย 16721 E. Old Spanish Trail, while you and your family sit on blankets under the stars.ย

Bring a picnic or you can purchase food at the Colossal Cave Terrace Cafe.ย

The show starts at 6 p.m. Admission is free, but there is a $5 parking fee.ย

3. Family Night at the Aquatic Center

A family with up to six members can play at the Oro Valley Aquatic Center, which is at 23 W. Calle Concordia, for $5, from 6-8 p.m.

The center has a water slide, splash pad and big pool to swim in.ย
